Pancakes

It was just us

Me and my baby girl

Whose brown eyes and curly hair

Matched mine

After months of getting established

I finally got funding to put her in daycare

This one day I decided to take her out for lunch

Across the street from her daycare

She picked the table and what she wanted to drink.

Which was water

She sat there across from me

Fidgeting and coloring

She looks up at me with her brown eyes

We color together

and talk about the crafts she made

And the friends she made

She ordered pancakes

and sat on her feet

so she could spread the butter

She didn’t finish her plate.
